Midwife Monday: Hana Lang

Hana grew up near Coburg Ontario and completed a degree in Cognitive Science before doing her Midwifery training at Ryerson. After starting out as a Registered Midwife practicing in Ottawa, she came to NDRV in September of 2018 and brought her lipstick with her!

What is your favourite part of being a midwife?

The relationships. With clients, colleagues… I guess I generally just really like people. I also love science. Midwifery is a fantastic marriage of both!

What is the hardest part of being a midwife?

On my body? Caffeine dependence (and probably my McDonalds habit!)

What do you never leave home without?

Bright lipstick. A little pop of colour at 3am totally changes my energy during a long birth.

If you knew you were about to have your last meal, what would you order?

Oh goodness. How big can this meal be? Multiple courses? Pasta, pizza, Diet Coke. Some garlic rapini for something green (although if it’s my last meal, who cares about vegetables?!)

What was the last book you read?

Bellevue Square – a spooky thriller that takes place in Kensington Market! Keeping it local.

Coffee or tea?  Beer or wine?  Kimmel or Fallon?

COFFEE. If you’re going to caffeinate, do it right.

Re: beer or wine depends on the food. I’m partial to wine because I eat cauldrons of pasta. Don’t watch either of those guys but I’m sure they’re a riot!

What do you hope to do when you retire?

I’ve got a good thirty years to come up with an answer to this one.
